Gemin-i Plus is unique in the way that it engages young people in key issues, giving them a voice where it may not otherwise have been heard. It develops Information Communication and Technology (ICT), teamwork and communication skills as well as fulfilling other curricular objectives through the linking of projects to the curricula of participating schools. Moreover, the Gemin-i Plus system links young people in a way which encourages genuine interaction, promoting cultural understanding and balanced information gathering on key issues.
Gemin-i Plus is designed to make the most of each school's available ICT resources and can operate effectively on low quality phone lines and poor quality computers. Up to four PCs can share a standard telephone modem line and still use the Gemin-i Plus system.
Its innovative Multiple User System allows up to five pupils to use one workstation simultaneously, thus realising - for the first time - the full potential of computer rooms with limited available workstations
The software contains many media rich collaborative tools in order to make the projects as exciting and engaging as possible and to ensure effective communication throughout the project. These include email, forums, meeting rooms, instant messaging, video conferencing and the unique drag and drop 'web page' design tools.
One of the most useful functions of Gemin-i Plus is the innovative 'web page' design tool, which pupils and teachers can use to create engaging media-rich pages by simply dragging elements such as pictures, sounds, text and videos on to a page.
“The software being used worked extremely well. Not having to use HTML codes to build a website made things fun and easy while working on the project.”
